The hike
Lion's Head (669 m) is part of Table Mountain National Park. The path starts on Signal Hill Road and spirals around the peak; it is roughly 2 km each way. Allow around 1 to 1.5 hours up and 2 to 3 hours return in total, depending on fitness and crowds. Near the top there is a short section of chains and ladders; a longer, less technical path bypasses it.
Sunrise, sunset and full moon
The full-moon hike is popular and busy. SANParks warns that darkness and the steep descent are dangerous: carry a headlamp, never go alone and avoid alcohol. A private registered guide is the elegant way to do it.
Signal Hill
For no-effort views, Signal Hill is reachable by car and is the classic sundowner spot over the Atlantic and Sea Point. Go with a driver and a picnic.
